PROFILE
Isabella Kestermann is a writer, editor, and graphic designer based in LA. She graduated in 2018 from Emerson College with a BA in Writing Literature and Publishing. Currently, she works as a TA for Josh Grapes Frankenstein Lab Editing Workshop where she teaches how to develop healthy editing practices. In 2020 Isabella received a First Seating Fellowship for Charles University Writing Workshop hosted by James Ragan in Prague.

Not so much a story (that'll come later on this week) but I made my first chapbook! XD I won't indulge you into the history of Chapbooks, (mostly because I know so little about the history) but to put it simply I collected a few pieces I made and gathered them in a pamphlet style booklet.   I printed 20 copies, but after handing most of them to my writing class, three to my uber driver and 1 to my housekeeper, I'm left three. :( Needless to say, I'm super proud of this accompliment. It's so satisfying to see my work in a physical form.   I was thinking of posting a digital spread of my piece, for people to read. But I'm curious, would anyone be interested?

That Goddam Beauty Mark

“Sorry” I chest. I am sitting on the monarch sofa about to kiss my long-time beau. But seeing his lips pucker like a butterfly about to land on a flower and that goddam beauty mark, I know I have to say something. “I don’t like the way things are” I look away as I say this. At some point, my lipstick cap had rolled onto the floor and tucked itself neatly between the neon pink shag carpeting. “But that’s the way they are,” my beau says. His hand is still on my hand. He is wearing spiky red and black rings that make his thick fingers look like pasty hickory horned devils. Ominous. “Hey,” He says, grabbing my face with one of those spiky hands. “Would you look at that.” That goddam beauty mark hovers just above his lips, twisting and warping as he speaks. Under the sound of Billy Holiday’s voice, I can hear the trickle of water coming from the aquarium.
